Located along the upper Mekong, Binh Thanh island covers an area of 6km x 15km. The excursion is partly by sampan along the tiny creeks and partly on foot around the mat weaving village. The sampan ride will bring us up-close to numerous floating fish farms, fish processing factories, and water-hyacinth farms. This lovely and untouched island will give you a deep insight into the local people’s life of how they make their living on hand-weaving sleeping mats from rattan and occasionally, weaving baskets from water hyacinth stems. There is a great opportunity to meet with some elderly people on the island to interact and learn about their life.
The walk on the island will include:
- a visit to mat weaving village for hands-on with families
- a visit to Binh Thanh temple for interaction with the elderly
